Pantry Shelving Ideas

My neighbor and I were texting (our boys were playing outside together) and I mentioned I was working on toy organization. She texted back and said, “well I have lots to organize if you ever run out of things to do.” My response was something along the lines of, “haha.  Send me a picture of your snack cabinet.” I was kind of joking but half serious.

Long story short, I offered to help for a couple hours the next day and we shopped her house that afternoon for baskets and bins. I shared a picture of our organized kitchen pantry and she decided she wanted a few clear bins to help keep snacks organized.

My neighbor’s home is a traditional ranch and they have gutted most of the first floor and opened it up so that the kitchen and living room space are one big room. Their kitchen renovation is currently underway (see our previous homes huge kitchen renovation that almost killed me) and they have plans to paint the kitchen cabinets, build an island and replace the countertops.

In the meantime, her snacks, cooking, baking and everything food related were jammed into every cabinet and nearby closet.

Marla giggled when I said, “Are you ok with me sharing these pictures on the blog?”

When they opened up the kitchen and living space (by tearing down a couple walls) this closet was one that use to be part of a hallway off the kitchen.

We decided to relocate the cleaning supplies in this closet to another space and add additional shelving to create more storage for food. They decided that having all of the kids snacks and baking items would be perfect for this newly created kitchen closet pantry.

This is a pure example of working with what you have and making the best out of the existing storage space available.

We emptied all of the snacks from the kitchen cabinets and used the new food storage containers that they bought along with baskets and bins that they already had. If you shop your own home, you will be amazed at what you can find!

Now all kids snacks are in one place and they can actually see what they need when they go grocery shopping. My friend Marla likes to stock up on snacks, especially crackers (as you can see the entire top shelf is lined with cracker boxes) so the additional shelving worked out perfectly.

By cleaning out all the snacks and baking items from the kitchen cabinets, this freed up a tremendous amount of space in the kitchen area for reorganization of canned goods, cooking items and other food.
